"It helped me realize that every single one of us can make a difference in our community as long as we are willing to work hard and are driven by a common goal to give back to our communities. ![]() From the workshop, I learned how to engage my community and gain support from various stakeholders in order to create a conference and competition, which gathered around 300 attendees to discuss and create solutions to solve our city's problems using information technology." "Today I’m proud to say that my project, Code for Bandung, has helped the government of my city to be more open for citizen collaboration, while also making citizens more willing and able to help solve their city’s problems. Pandu recalls, "It was a year-long project, and I was grateful for the workshop, which gave me the skills to create a proposal that was clearly worth winning an international fund." Pandu and his team then successfully applied for a State Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund grant to grow their initiative. ![]() ![]() Pandu Putra, a YES 2009-2010 alumnus from Indonesia was selected as July State Alumni of the Month! Pandu (hosted by AFS in Zionsville, IN) refined his Code for Bandung project idea at a 2014 YES Alumni Social Entrepreneur workshop, which utilizes Ashoka curriculum to provide alumni with change-making skills and tools they can apply to a concrete action in their community.
